Roadmap Unveiled to Double Energy Productivity by 2030, Provides Strategies to Improve Economy and Environment

HELP US REACH 2030

ENDORSE THE GOAL
A Statement from Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan

“The Alliance is proud to co-host today’s historic Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 Summit, where Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz is unveiling Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030: A Strategic Roadmap for American Energy Innovation, Economic Growth, and Competitiveness (Roadmap). This is an important national resource that points the way to a doubling of U.S. energy productivity by 2030. Following the pathways and recommendations in the report will allow America to cut its current energy waste in half. The Roadmap demonstrates clearly that it is possible to double the amount of GDP we create as a nation without increasing the amount of energy we use to do so. And, the ‘rewards’ of making this new American energy future a reality are many and significant — from creating over a million new jobs to reducing consumers’ energy bills by over $1,000 a year, all while simultaneously achieving huge reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

“The Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030: A Strategic Roadmap for American Energy Innovation, Economic Growth, and Competitiveness (Roadmap), builds upon historical efforts to maximize energy productivity and identifies proven and effective strategies and actions to advance energy efficiency that can be implemented by a broad range of stakeholders including federal, state and local governments; commercial and industrial businesses; electric, gas and water utilities; universities, community colleges and individual consumers.

“These actions will lead to direct, tangible and long-lasting benefits: lower energy bills, a more globally competitive manufacturing and industrial base, improved potential for economy growth and greater overall productivity and prosperity for Americans in the decades to come. According to the model underpinning the Roadmap, these strategies will in aggregate contribute to a net increase of $922 billion in U.S. GDP by 2030.

“The Roadmap’s wide-ranging strategies include Transportation, Technologies for Building Energy Productivity, Financing for Building Energy Productivity, Smart Manufacturing and the Water-Energy Nexus. Taken together, these pathways identify ways that organizations, institutions, businesses and individuals can play an important part in supporting the doubling of our nation’s energy productivity by 2030. And, in so doing, all will enjoy a potential share of the benefits of achieving this goal.

“We are encouraged that the federal government and private sector leaders are already deploying many of the strategies recommended in the Roadmap. The report is built on real-world experience and the expertise of a wide array of business, industrial, government and academic leaders from across the country. The innovation and investment already being made to improve our nation’s energy productivity is the best testament to our ability to achieve the goal of cutting our country’s energy waste in half. The Roadmap provides a strong foundation for scaling up existing efforts and initiatives nationwide, while allowing for flexible and tailored solutions. The Alliance stands ready and motivated to work with stakeholders of all sectors to advance towards doubling energy productivity and producing a modern American energy economy.”
